Largemouth Bass in New Jersey City?
My name is Jamie Russell. I have been fishing since I was 5. After
moving to Jersey Heights area ,just above Hoboken, I have looked
around for good freshwater fishing spots. About 2 years ago, I was
at Lincoln Park off of the bank in late June, I caught a 7lb largemouth
on a yellow 1/8 oz.spinner bait. This was a surprise because I had
only caught 2 to 3 pounders up until then.
I recently moved to a new lake.(Lincoln Pk. has been over fished of Sunnys,
Yellow Perch and all the other bait fish that people could easily
catch, unfortunately!)... 80th street park (Wilshire Park actually) is
where I fish now. On June 1st of this year I was using an artificial
white spotted black worm with a small spinner on the head. With a slow
retrieve and a little jigging on a 6lb tst line, I got a massive strike
2 yards off the rock I was on. After 3 to 4 minutes I had landed a 24 inch
long bass and a girth of 20 inches, it was a 8 1/2 to 9lb lunker bass!!! It
was great to know there is a spot with fish like that, So close to the city!
