Lunker largemouth bass get a great deal of attention at Caney Creek Reservoir, but crappie are a favorite of locals. Crappie, often referred to as "sac-a-lait" or white perch are abundant and run above average in size. Good populations of catfish and sunfish also reside here. This 5,200-acre lake in the north-central part of the state has over fifty miles of shoreline. Excellent boat launch ramps are located at Jimmie Davis State Park mid-lake on the north side of the lake, and at Hooks Marina in the southwest corner of the lake, off Spillway Road. Access for fishing from the bank can be found at the state park, near boat landings and along some of the undeveloped shoreline.
