Largemouth Bass Fishing
Lake Maurepas continues to deliver good catches of largemouth bass, year round. Although the fishery has declined a bit over the last few years, fishing for largemouth bass has is still popular here. Thorough fisheries management by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has maintained a decent bass fishery for some time now. Crappie Fishing
Although it is not as well known as other Louisiana crappie lakes, fishing for black and white crappie in Lake Maurepas can still deliver a nice stringer of "slabs". Crappie fishing is on the rise and they can be found in sizeable schools. Crappie always like cover and structure, so locate brush and vegetation. Using a fish finder can help locate schools of crappie, which tend to stack vertically around cover. Live bait and small jigs are the most common method for crappie here. In spring and fall focus on the 8 to 12 foot range. The best time to catch crappie tends to be at dawn and dusk. As the crappie move deeper in summer and winter, follow points out to deeper water.
Blue Catfish Fishing
This year blue catfish are running in the big, to monster size in Lake Maurepas. In the recent past, blues weighing over 25 pounds have been caught here. The state record is well over 100 pounds.
