Popular Fish Species DeGray Lake, AR
Largemouth Bass

Current Report: Good To Very Good
Outlook: Very Good To Excellent
If you like catching big bass, you will love what's being reported at DeGray Lake. An 11-pound, and a 12-pound bass have been weighed in recently, and quality bass are being caught quite regularly. A wide variety of lures are catching nice largemouth bass here, but many tournament anglers are counting on swimbaits, spoons, Rattle Traps and other deep diving crankbaits. The spawn is in the early stages and bass are starting to move shallow.
Black Crappie - White Crappie

Current Report: Fair To Good
Outlook: Good
Crappie fishing has been decent, and has started picking up here over the last month. Many local anglers focus on the area around DeGray Lake State Park Resort. Crappie can be found around brush piles 10' to 15' down in 20' to 25' of water, and they are making their way shallower now. Spring is the premiere time to be on the water as crappie move into shallow coves to spawn. Brush piles, wood and vegetation are a good place to cast small crappie jigs or live minnows. Long crappie rods with 4 lb to 8 lb line is working well. Locals report success using fish finders and electronics to locate schools of crappie.
Hybrid Striped Bass

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
Hybrid stripers in DeGray Lake tend to favor open water, especially over even deeper water. They migrate from the Caddo River inflow end of the lake in Spring, to the area around the dam for Summer, Fall and Winter. Swimbaits, jerkbaits, crankbaits, spoons, bladebaits, live bait and cut bait are all catching good wipers, and will continue to do so all throughout the year. Locals reporting the best catches are locating schools of shad, then finding the stripers nearby. Their primary diet is the schools of shad that swim open water throughout the lake, and they follow these schools to stay close to food supply. Use electronics and fish finders to locate both bait and wipers.
