Largemouth Bass

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
Topwater lures are a top of the morning bait for largemouth bass, all through the warmer months at Lake Bowen. The topwater bite repeats again during the last hour of daylight. When the bass are not active enough to attack a topwater bait, crankbaits are catching lots of quality fish. During slower times, when the bass are being finicky, a stick worm, rigged wacky style, has also been reported to catch some nice largemouth bass.
Black Crappie - White Crappie

Current Report: Fair To Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
Not the biggest lake in the state, but one where locals report good crappie fishing nearly year round. Lake Bowen really shines in Spring as crappie move into the shallows to spawn. Docks, brush piles, wood and laydowns are a good place to cast small crappie jigs or live minnows. Light tackle with 4 lb to 8 lb line is ideal. Locals report good success using fish finders to locate schools of crappie once they move out to 12' to 15' structure, after the spawn.
Bluegill

Current Report: Poor To Fair
Outlook: Good To Very Good
Larger bluegill make for good table fare, while many of the smaller bluegill end up being a primary food source for bass and catfish here. Local anglers report decent size bluegill being caught with some frequency, once the warmer months arrive and the bluegill move into the shallows along the bank. Small pieces of nightcrawlers make an ideal bait on a small hook, tied to light line. A bobber completes the setup if you wish to fish at a desired depth.
