Largemouth Bass

Current Report: Good To Very Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
The bass are biting at Lake Wylie, which is reported to be one of the best bass lakes in this section of the country. There are spotted bass as well, but the lake is renowned for great largemouth fishing. The water temperatures are in the 70's and the spawn is winding down, so most bass are fry guarding, or feeding aggressively after a strenuous spawn. Most reaction baits are catching bass, as are worms, jigs and drop-shots.
Blue Catfish

Current Report: Good To Very Good
Outlook: Good
Fishing for big blue cats has been decent through this winter as they do feed year round, but get more active as the water warms. Fishing for blue catfish is often productive around any kind of structure, especially when water is flowing. Road beds, creek channels and rocky points are all good places to begin. Gizzard shad, sunfish, cut bait and prepared baits will all catch blue catfish. The lake also has populations of channel and flathead catfish. Use a slip sinker or Carolina rig setup.
Black Crappie - White Crappie

Current Report: Good To Very Good
Outlook: Good
Crappie fishing has been great throughout Spring, as they are in shallow coves and pockets, spawning. Crappie will move outside these areas to depths of 10 to 15 feet or deeper, as the spawn ends, and the water warms. Rocks, brush, wood and deep vegetation are a great places to cast small crappie jigs or live minnows. Light tackle with 4 lb to 8 lb line is ideal. In Summer, anglers are reporting success using fish finders and forward facing sonar to locate schools of crappie.
