A great place to take the family fishing, Lake Kickapoo (Kickapoo Reservoir) is a 6,000-acre lake in the north-central part of the state, 10 miles west of Archer City. Lake Kickapoo Fish Camp offers fishing from a barge (fee required) which makes it easy for kids to experience the fun of fishing. Crappie, bass, catfish, bluegill and white bass swim in these waters giving anglers a nice variety of fish species to pursue. A concrete boat launch ramp on north side of the lake, near the dam, facilitates boat launching for pleasure and fishing boats alike. Humps, islands, aquatic vegetation, brush and boat targets are great places to look for bass and crappie. White bass follow schools of baitfish and move around the lake - deeper in summer and winter, shallower in spring and fall. There are over 60 miles of shoreline to fish from shore or from a boat. Kayaks and canoes can be portaged from numerous places around the lake, and many of these spots area good choice for fishing from the bank.
