Popular Fish Species O H Ivie Lake, TX
Largemouth Bass

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
O H Ivie Lake is loaded with bass and cover. Trees, brush, weeds and rock all provide ambush points for largemouth bass. Locals report bass inside the coves in the mornings during warm weather, then transitioning to outside points as the sun gets high in the sky. In cooler weather this movement may vary throughout the day. Spinnerbaits are a good way to cover lots of water and bass here are prone to strike them aggressively.
Channel Catfish

Current Report: Fair To Good
Outlook: Good
Channel catfish thrive throughout the lake, but prefer relatively clean water. Local catfish anglers report they spawn in early summer, in heavy cover to hide their eggs. Fishing for channel catfish is often productive around any kind of structure. Road beds, creek channels and rocky points are all good places to begin. Use a slip sinker or Carolina rig setup with cut bait, live bait or prepared baits. C.J.'s Punch Bait is available at Bass Pro Shops.
White Crappie

Current Report: Good
Outlook: Good To Very Good
Crappie fishing reports have been quite good lately at O H Ivie Lake of late, especially fishing from dusk to dawn. Spring is the premiere time to be on the water as crappie move into shallow coves to spawn. Brush, wood and vegetation are a good place to cast live minnows or small crappie jigs. Light tackle with 4lb to 6lb line is ideal. Locals report good success using fish finders to locate schools of crappie, which tend to stack vertically around cover. In Spring and Fall focus on the 6 to 10 foot range.
