Current Report: Poor To Fair
Outlook:Good
Trolling is an ideal way to fish for walleye here. In Spring and Fall. locals target lures running at a depth of 8' to 15'. In summer work the 12' to 25' water column above drop offs into the river channel. Walleye like to slow cruise around flats and structure close to deep water. Although you'll lose a few baits due to hang ups in trees, spoons, deep-diving crankbaits, and worm harness spinners are also catching walleye while trolling.

Castle Rock Lake has fairly clear water making it a good fishery for topwater when the bass are shallow. The lake level often fluctuates, providing a variety of cover throughout the season. Locals report timber, brush, grass and rock are all good cover options for largemouth bass. Squarebill crankbaits are a great way to catch fat bass around wood. During slow times, when the bass are finicky, a stick worm, rigged wacky style, has been catching these wary bass.
Black Crappie - White Crappie

Current Report: Good To Very Good
Outlook: Very Good
Crappie fishing has been good here pretty much year round, including through the ice. Spring is the premiere time to be on the water as crappie move into shallow coves to spawn. Timber, brush, laydowns and deep vegetation are a good place to cast small crappie jigs or live minnows. Locals report very good ice fishing for crappie and yellow bass. Light tackle with 4 lb to 8 lb line is ideal. Locals report good success using fish finders to locate schools of crappie, which tend to stack vertically around cover.
