Popular Fish Species Lake Crescent, WA
Beardslee Rainbow Trout
Current Report: Good
Rainbows here migrate up and down the water column, more and more as Summer warms the water. Currently, rainbows are being caught in 15 to 20 feet of water early in the day. Come mid day, especially on warm days, they drop down to 50 or 100 feet, sometimes considerably deeper. Most rainbows are being taken while trolling, using downriggers or leaded line. The lake record for Beardslee Rainbow Trout is over 23 pounds. The diet of a rainbow trout consists of insects, small fishes and crustaceans. Use flies or small lures, imitating their natural food, to tempt them into biting. Small spinners, spoons, miniature crankbaits and swimbaits are catching rainbows, as are salmon eggs and prepared baits.
Coastal Cutthroat Trout

Coastal Cutthroat Trout are popular here, and are a favorite of both fly fishing enthusiasts, trolling and spinning gear anglers. The diet of these cutthroat trout consists of insects, small fishes and crustaceans. Like the rainbows, they are being caught in 15 to 20 feet of water early in the day, around boulders, fallen trees, along drop-offs and ledges. Later they move down to 50 or 100 feet, sometimes considerably deeper, when the sun is high in the sky. Most cutthroats are also being taken while trolling, using downriggers or leaded line. Locals report using dry flies or streamers when fly fishing, or use small spinners and spoons, imitating minnows. Year round, small jigging spoons are also delivering some nice fish.
Kokanee Salmon
Current Report: Good To Very Good
Kokanee have recently been shallows, However as water temperatures are rising into the high 50's the they are moving deeper, in search of cooler water. Kokanee are being caught from 30 to 60 feet deep, depending on time of day and area of the lake. Most are being taken using downriggers or leaded line, while trolling. Kokanee school up and hang out over deep water, usually above some type of structure. The ideal water temperature is mid to low 50's, identify the depth for that range, and the kokanee will be hanging around. Worm harnesses with prepared baits and wedding ring spinner setups are popular when trolled behind a 4" dodger. Locals are tipping these baits with shoepeg corn, PowerBait, or Z-Man Scented ShrimpZ to help attract bites. Trolling these baits between 1.2 mph and 1.8 mph is a good speed range.
