The Rio Santiago creates this 70,000 surface acre lake in the state of Nayarit. It is about 65 miles long and is the newest addition to the fine collection of bass fishing lakes in Mexico. The lake is nearly seventy miles long with plenty of pockets, coves and cover for multitudes of bass.
Travel To Aguamilpa
The lake is located approximately twenty miles east of Tepic, Mexico, in the state of Nayarit. For travel by land, follow Mexico Highway 15 south from Nogales, for 920 miles, to the city of Tepic, Mexico. From here you have choices depending which area of the lake you prefer to enter.

Bass Fishing At Aguamilpa
Catches of well over 100 fish per day are common at Aguamilpa. Additionally, significant numbers of double-digit bass are being caught. As the lake ages, more big bass will appear.
Largemouth Bass Fishing In Mexico
Largemouth bass are the most abundant, and most pursued bass in Mexico. They are available in most warm-water lakes in the country, they tend to thrive in most water conditions and grow to bragging size in relative short order. Often called big mouth bass, or wide mouth bass, they are savvy predators that feed on most things that live in their territory. Bass in the 8 to 15-pound range are common in Mexico.

Documentation
All travel into Mexico from the United States requires a passport for entry into Mexico and return to the United States. If you are traveling by vehicle you will be required to have proper vehicle registration and drivers license. If you bring a boat, proper vehicle registration will be required for both the boat and trailer. Make certain all documents are current.
Mexico insurance is also required for travel in Mexico.

Travel Warnings
Any time you travel outside the USA, be aware that you are subject to local law governing the area you are to visit. As a general rule, travel to lakes in Mexico is considered safe. However, there are reports of unrest and violence between competing drug cartels, and Mexico law enforcement. Most of this activity in confined to areas away from the bass fishing lakes. Some of the border towns and population centers in Mexico experience higher than normal levels of crime and violence. Often, American border town information centers can advise regarding cartel activity in neighboring Mexico border towns. It is always best to caravan, stay on the main highways and be aware of what's going on around you.
