By Rick Seaman and Dan Westfall
You can’t say too much about the importance of using the right, quality gear to go bass fishing. Rods, reels, line, lures and hooks all play an integral part in making your day a success. Invest in quality and reap the rewards every time you go fishing.
3 Most Important Factors About Fishing Tackle
- Quality tackle in good working order is a must for successful fishing.
- Use fresh, quality fishing line.
- Sharpen or replace all hooks before using.
Bass fishing tackle is an investment in the good times.
Balancing the four major components in fishing gear is important for many reasons. Each lure, and size of lure, has an ideal rod, reel and line that allows you to make the most productive casts. Once you determine the lure you wish to use, Select the right components that give the best opportunity to make accurate casts and get the fish in the boat once you get a bite. As a general rule use the heaviest action rod that will still work with the lures you plan to fish, and still allow you to make proper casts. Select the heaviest line you can get away with for this rod and lure combination. As a rule, bait casting reels work better for horsing bass out of heavy cover, but heavy duty spinning reels can also work. The key is to get the best of all four components that allows you to fish efficiently and get the bass in the boat.
Whether you are fishing artificial lures or live bait, sharp hooks are a MUST. Use quality hooks and keep them sharp – checking often to make sure the point has not been damaged.
