In order to effectively fish spinnerbaits in this depth range, there must be cover of some kind. Brush, timber or grass is ideal for slow rolling a spinnerbait to call bass out of the cover. Even at this depth a spinnerbait triggers a reaction bite.

3 Most Important Factors About Mid-Range Spinnerbait Fishing
  • It is a lure you can work through mid-depth cover with little problems getting hung up.
  • Imitates all type of baitfish and sunfish which are a primary food source for bass.
  • Easy lure for detecting strikes and you can cover lots of water in a relatively short period of time.
3 Most Effective Fishing Methods
  • Cast, slow swim the lure to the depth you wish to fish and make a steady retrieve all the way back.
  • Keep the lure in contact with cover by touching branches and etc while keeping the lure moving.
  • Add curly-tail worms, lizards or flukes to the spinnerbait giving it more visual bulk and action.

Spinnerbait

The key to fishing a spinnerbait at mid depths is to use a heavier spinnerbait of 5/8 ounce or heavier, and slow down the presentation. Other than that, fish the deep cover the same way you would fish similar, shallower cover.

The general rule for blade selection is use willow leaf blades around grass, or when you want to keep the spinnerbait moving at a faster pace. Choose Colorado blades for more lift while slow-rolling or bottom bumping, or in dirty water conditions. Most anglers today are using combinations of the two to achieve particular retrieve actions. Blade color in these depths is of little consequence unless the water is extremely clear on bright sunny days where you would want to use less-flashy blades.

Make long casts and count down the lure to the depth of the bass and retrieve the lure at a speed that will keep it in the target depth for the majority of the retrieve.
